Welcome to another book review, and I’m featuring one of my favourites again this week.
Let me just start off by saying that this book has absolutely nothing to do with the Liam Neeson ‘Taken’ movies.
Another of my secondhand purchases; this book joined the bookshelf family a few years back, and it’s so good, I’ve read it twice – just to make sure I didn’t miss any important details the first time around (I didn’t, that’s how much the book kept me focused).
It’s the only book of Chris Jordan that I have read so far, and if I find another one of his books again, and it’s as good as this one, I’ll need to start a collection of them all.
Only a few might know this, but Chris Jordan is actually a pen name for author Rodman Philbrick, and he has published books under his real name too.

Plot:
Widowed mother Kate Bickford finds herself in the depths of any parent’s nightmare, the disappearance of her son. As she rushes home hoping to find him, she is met by Cutter: her son’s abductor.
His demands are simple: he wants all her money, and if she doesn’t follow what he refers to as The Method, she’ll need to deal with the horrendous consequences.
Her cosy life starts collapsing as time starts running out to meet the demands of Cutter, leading her to discover a horrifying secret Kate and her son share with a killer.
My Opinion: Positive Thoughts
I thoroughly enjoying this thriller and the suspense was crazy! It’s written in present tense which created a sense of immediacy, and makes you feel as if you’re going through the story with the characters.
I didn’t expect the twist of the book at all! When the secret is revealed, it’s like WOOOOW, no way! The build-up grew as the book went on and it was difficult to put it down. You just had to finish it to get to the truth.
My Opinion: Negative Thoughts
The only thing I could mention is that it’s written in first person, which isn’t a favourite of mine. This didn’t change my view on the book though.
Overview:
It’s a wonderful suspense thriller which you could easily finish in one sitting, because it’s just that attention grabbing. The idea behind the kidnapping is also very original and make the book even better when you think about the story as a whole.
My Rating:
The book has a rating of 3.58 out of 5 on GoodReads.
I gave it a 5 out of 5. There aren’t many thrillers that catch my attention from the very beginning as this book did, and the twist at the end was heart stopping.
