The Search by Iris Johansen {Book Review}

I do like finding authors I’ve never read books from before and enjoying their work.

Iris Johansen is an author I’m not entirely familiar with and this is the first of her books I’ve read, before knowing it’s part of the Eve Duncan series.

The Search is the third book of the series.

Plot:

Sarah Patrick and Monty, her golden retriever, are part of an elect K-9 search and rescue team who are able to find things that no one else can.

Their latest assignment isn’t one of their usual ones.

Sarah finds herself taking part in a dangerous mission by someone who knows about her past, enough of it to make sure she cooperates without restraints.

Billionaire John Logan’s top-secret project has been compromised, destroyed and the staff massacred.

The only survivor is kept hostage at ransom. The only way to save the man and preserve the secrets is to find him as soon as possible.

Sarah isn’t happy about joining Logan on the search. Once she accepts the assignment, no ones promises of her and Monty’s safety will be enough to keep them safe.

The killer is on the path of vengeance, and Sarah might be part of that plan.

My Opinion: Positive Thoughts

The book has an even pace which picked up a little towards the last part of the story. I did struggle a little in the beginning to get into the book and it took a couple of attempts to start feeling the story. Once the story picked up, the suspense of the plot starting coming through.

John was an interesting character, portrayed as an alpha male, although I didn’t get the full feel of it.

The villain in the book is well written, ruthless and nasty.

Expect some wild sex but nothing too graphic to not be able to read through the parts.

Monty’s love interest was adorably cute!

My Opinion: Negative Thoughts

Sarah choice’s didn’t always follow through with her talk and it was a little frustrating trying to keep up with that.

The direction the story was going, I wasn’t expecting romance to fall into the plot. It wasn’t all too bad, if you’re willing to skip over certain mindless conversations and parts. It felt like the book was leaning more into a romance novel than a thriller.

Even Duncan is hardly in this book, even though the book series is named after her.

Overview:

An interesting plot that left me guessing until the end. The plot became intense and captivating as the story unfolded.

I loved the relationship between Sarah and Monty, it was heart-warming and something interesting to read about.

My Rating:

The book has a rating of 4.15 on GoodReads. I gave it a 4.
