I was originally drawn to the book because of it’s cover and then the blurb caught me.
I love thrillers, and even more so psychological ones that really bring in some deep thinking and emotion.
So Much Pretty is one of those books that will shock you because it highlights the realities of the world we live in.
This is an angry book, and if you’re not feeling it by the last page, you read it wrong.
It’s a book about the horrors that take place in a small town and shake everyone up, and leaves your hair standing on end.

Plot:
The small town of Haeden, New York, is shaken when the tortured body of a waitress, Wendy White, is found nearby the woods. The police didn’t place much focus on the case, assuming that Wendy had run away six months earlier.
She has only been dead for a few days.
The story is told from the perspectives of Wendy, local reporter Stacy Flynn, and high school student Alice; a story of murder, revenge and violence, leading to a shocking ending.
Thoughts:
It’s a dark story with uncomfortable imagery and a moral weave, and it’s meant to make you feel uneasy.
No detail is watered down in the book or the characters and that is what makes it stand out. It portrays the people and the situations in their truest colours.
It took me a while to actually get into the book as I couldn’t understand the purpose of some of the characters in the beginning and how they were linked, but once I had my head wrapped it, I couldn’t put the book down.
As the story unfolds, you get bits and pieces of the horrid events that took place, and each piece of the puzzle forms the bigger picture.
The book has several points of views, and each is important to explain the plot, and tie everything together. There are also some time jumps to keep track of, so you need to focus to understand what is happening when and with who.

Overview:
It’s not an easy read, and it will leave you with thoughts about the realities in our world and how similar events happen every day – the abuse and murder of women.
It’s disturbing and might require setting the book aside to clear your head space and steady emotions.
My Rating:
The book has a rating of 3.27 on GoodReads. I gave it a 5.
