I read this book many moons ago, in my early twenties and I think I liked it?
It was long before I even thought of doing book reviews and writing down how I felt about a book. So I decided it was a good time as any to reread it last year and remember why I chose to read it in the first place.
I remember now why I wasn’t such a big fan of it.

Plot:
Lena Duchannes isn’t a normal teenager; she’s struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations.
Ethan Wate is counting down the months until he can move away from Gatlin, but he is haunted in his dreams, by a girl he has never met.
When Lena moves to the small town, he is drawn to her and is determined to understand the connection between them.
One secret could change everything, but will it be kept hidden?
Thoughts:
I struggled to get into the book in the beginning as there was a lot of mindless information that seemed to drag on without any real benefits to the story.
The book does score some points of bringing a sense of escapism at some stages and making you marvel at it.
It is very densely plotted and not justified by it’s length.
Your typical paranormal/young adult/unrealistic romance (for teenagers, especially) tropes that have been fused together to try and make something new but ending up being like the typical books written in these genres.
The ‘we can’t be together’ trope is laid on thick, feeling like it’s being forced down your throat, and maybe if there wasn’t as much focus on that, the book could have lived up to something more.

Overview:
I’m not too keen on reading the rest of the books in the series as it wasn’t all that wow with plots and tropes completely overplayed.
My Rating:
The book has a rating of 3.76 on GoodReads. I gave it a 4.
