The Offering by Kimberly Derting {Book Review}

I didn’t find book two in the series, The Essence, as intriguing as book one, The Pledge, but I still needed to find out how the story ended.

This book continued with a dystopian approach, which was a win because it’s one of my favourite book genres.

Book Review: The Offering by Kimberly Derting #bookreview #fantasybooks #romancebooks #youngadultbooks

Plot:

Charlie has faced many challenges; becoming the new Queen of Ludania, trying to keep a new resistance from invading, understanding what is best for the people she rules, betrayals and still, fighting to keep the old Queen Sabara’s essence from taking over.

In the final chapter of the series, Charlie faces the most difficult decisions yet: losing the ones she cares most for, making new alliances, and taking her Queendom down a path of possible destruction.

Thoughts:

Charlie is still fighting battles against new and old enemies as well as fighting the battles within her against Sabara’s evil presence.

The deaths in this book reached a high as so many characters left the series, some deaths completely pointless and sad. Some characters in the book I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to, but if everyone came out alive in the end, the book wouldn’t be realistic and true, especially in times when wars are fought.

The book was hard on characters, old and new, and filled with drama, war, betrayal, and some adventure. The character growth was amazing in the book, and it was good to see some relationships being mended and both characters needed to reach that growth to make it happen. It took some time but they got there eventually.

There wasn’t much romance in this book, but it all worked out at the end.

Overview:

The book had a fast pace and I was relieved it wasn’t going around in mini circles with the plot.

It was hard to see who was going to come out as the victor at certain times in the book because things just kept changing and becoming difficult, and you needed to keep reading to feed the suspense.

My Rating:

The book has a rating of 3.80 on GoodReads. I gave it a 5.
