I am such a sucker at finishing book series!
I’m not even going to start naming all the book series I have yet to finish (not really, I’ll be posting about that eventually)!!
It’s not that I don’t want to finish the series, it’s just that there are so many books out there grabbing at my attention and shifting my focus to something else.
However, that being said, I have actually managed to finish a couple of book series and I can share that achievement, because it takes commitment to finish a series. Yes, a commitment!
Here are five series that I have finished and what I thought of them. I’ve added my rating for each book as well as the genres of the books, in case any of these peak your attention.

Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth

Genre: Young Adult, Dystopian, Fantasy, Science Fiction, Romance, Adventure
- Divergent – 4/5
- Insurgent – 4/5
- Allegiant – 4/5
While this series was good, I didn’t enjoy it THAT much. I read it when the books just came out, kind of forgot about it and the reread them a few years back (which is something I don’t usually do) and my opinion of the series didn’t change. Yes, I enjoyed it but it’s not one of my favourites. The biggest issue I had – how the series ended, which wasn’t cool at all (still holding it against you, Veronica Roth) but yes, I know I know – it was necessary.
Red Sparrow Trilogy by Jason Matthews

Genre: Thriller, Mystery, Espionage
- Red Sparrow – 5/5
- Palace of Treason – 5/5
- The Kremlin’s Candidate – 5/5
I LOVED this series. I loved it so much that I needed to complete my collection by purchasing the physical copy of The Kremlin’s Candidate when I came across it at the second-hand store.
This book was filled with the inside works of the espionage world, steamy sex scenes and many deaths to give you a realistic feel to the books. There were characters I felt sorry for, hated and loved, and some that I just rooted for until the end. It didn’t have the ending that you would expect after all the thrilling books and it was actually appropriate to end the series in that way.
The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins

Genre: Young Adult, Dystopian, Fantasy, Romance, Science Fiction, Romance
- The Hunger Games – 5/5
- Catching Fire – 5/5
- Mockingjay 5/5
This was also a series I ended up rereading and it was worth the time I spent doing that. This is one of my favourite dystopian series and I can’t recommend it enough. The movie adaptations were cool but they don’t reach the same level that the books did. The one thing that happened a lot was my blood pressure rising each time Suzanne Collins decided to off a character, and going on that rating, I haven’t read another book that came even close to the amount of deaths in one story.
The Pledge Trilogy by Kimberly Derting

Genre: Young Adult, Dystopian, Fantasy, Romance, Paranormal, Science Fiction
- The Pledge – 4/5
- The Essence – 4/5
- The Offering – 5/5
Firstly, each cover was beautifully done and really enrich the story in each book. I loved the idea the author had for the plot and the characters, and this series stood out to me from other young adult books. While there were still some comparable aspects, the main elements were unique and made the story enjoyable. The Essence dipped a little with the story sort of not going anywhere after The Pledge, but thankfully The Offering picked up the pace again with a good ending to the series. The Pledge wasn’t as great as the last book with some predictable and overused tropes in the mix but I’m glad I decided to push on with the series and finished it.
Dark Inside Trilogy by Jeyn Roberts

Genre: Young Adult, Dystopian, Science Fiction, Horror, Apocalyptic
- Dark Inside – 5/5
- Rage Within – 5/5
- Fury Rising – 5/5
I absolutely loved this series! In fact, I wanted to kick myself for leaving Dark Inside for so long on my bookshelf. If I had known then what I know now about the book series, I would’ve read the book immediately after purchasing it. I was committed to the series, I needed to know what was going on. I needed to know what would happen with the characters and what was causing all the madness. I didn’t think I’d like the zombie trope but this book series opened a new perspective and I’ll definitely try more books (and hopefully they will be as good as these are). I only have a physical copy of Dark Inside and currently on the hunt to add the other two books to my bookshelf too! This is a hidden gem series and definitely deserves more recognition.
